Last month, a friend gave me a copy of Malcolm Gladwell's new book, Blink.

Having loved his first book, The Tipping Point, I was prepared to enjoy the second book. And enjoy it I did!

Gladwell has a unique ability to take an idea and make it comprehensible, digestible, intelligible, interesting, intriguing, and thought-provoking. Yes, I know that's a lot of syllables, but that's how I feel!

Last night, Malcolm Gladwell spoke at a Barnes & Noble bookstore near me, so I went to hear him. He's odd looking - medium height, pale skin, narrow face, glasses, and an amazing bush of curly hair. He looks geeky. He looks odd. He looks inarticulate (yes, I know, how can someone look inarticulate?).

Even though I'd read Blink, I was dramatically affected by his appearance. My first thought was that Gladwell was going to mumble and bumble through his talk, in spite of the fact that I found his writing to be captivating and clear.

How delighted was I when Gladwell began speaking! He is clear, articulate, and passionate about his topic. I was impressed and captivated.

So what does this mean for you?

First, go and buy and read Blink. I know that this is an unusual statement from me, but this book is wonderful and powerful.

Second, begin to understand the power of snap judgments, instinctive reactions, first impressions, and how they affect you and your interaction with the world.

Third, start thinking about how much your own biased snap judgments of yourself have affected you and your choices. This is powerful stuff.

This has now earned a permanent place of honor in my library, alongside The Tipping Point and Crucial Conversations.

Wishing you health, wealth, and happiness,
