I have no excuses, although I have many explanations. For what? For my extended newsletter silence, of course. This year has been a wonderful, exciting, and challenging one for me, and one of the results of that is that I spent more time blogging and less time writing this newsletter. Then I started running in to people who said to me "I love your newsletter! Um - where has it been lately?" Okay - there's a clear message there. So I'm back in my metaphorical saddle (echos of The Lone Ranger haunt me :) ), and you'll be seeing my newsletters on a regular basis. What's with the blogging, Steven? As you probably know, I have a strong technology background. When blogging first started making noise, I didn't think much about it. After all, blogs are nothing more than sequential messages that anyone can read any time they like. Talk about a Blind Spot! Then I began to appreciate the impact of blogs - the freedom to write a little or a lot at any time, with minimal effort, and have it be published instantly! Woohoo! So I found myself putting more effort into blogging and less into newslettering (I know - that's not a real verb - but it works! :) ). For instance, in June I wrote about the anniversary of my heart attack. And back in March, I wrote about my own Blind Spots and Giving Them What You Expect. In October, I shared some lovely insight from Thich Nhat Hanh on the North Star. As you'll see, if you peruse my blog, is that the topics are wide-ranging and the frequency somewhat inconsistent. What's been happening for me, however, is that the process of blogging, combined with some increase in my coaching practice, has led me to pull my thoughts about life, growth, business, and self-awareness together. The current plan, therefore, is to publish the first of a series of books on Blind Spots in mid-2006, with more following on a regular basis. For instance, my thoughts on Be(com)ing:
So I've been busy with blogging. That's not all, though...I've been busy building a new business. We just entered pre-launch in late summer of BackOfTheRoom.com. This is a new online bookstore that specializes in self-published and small press books. It's an idea I've had in mind for some time, and am just now getting rolling. There are lots of folks out there who self-publish. Many of them offer their books for sale at the back of the room if they speak. Many of them offer their books for sale on Amazon.com and other online sites. My goal was to enable them to sell more books (or other products) with less effort to more people. Take a look - we're not in full production yet, and haven't started our promotion. We're very excited, and are starting to get some real interest from a variety of sources. A couple of small press publishers have already brought us all of their titles, along with a growing number of individual authors. In the context of Blind Spots, this is one of those things that as a techie I'm inclined to say "Anyone could do this!" But they don't. So I'm doing it because I can and because I believe it will create real value for lots of folks - creators, affiliates, and consumers. I'm committedAs I said at the beginning of this newsletter, I'm committed to getting back on track and publishing my newsletter on a regular and consistent basis. I appreciate you for sticking with me. Wishing you health, wealth, and happiness,
